Emotional highs and lows in excess can play havoc. All our life, we react to events and people. When we are young, we can absorb a lot of the reactionary feelings. But with age, most people want peace and therefore, a stop to the frequent roller coaster trips.

Thankfully, there is an increasing awareness that what we can do for ourselves, no one can, however well meaning they are. No one can feel, bear and change for you. So, let us remind ourselves as soon as we wake up that we are going to have a beautiful day, uncluttered by any complex thoughts or emotions so that we increase our peaceful moments every day.

And let us trust that whatever is ordained will happen and we must respond and not react to it. This will take care of your peace quotient.

Meditation and turning inward is as important as fulfilling external duties. We have seven main chakras out of which the lower three chakras represent our life on this earth, the heart is midway between the earth and divine chakras and links the two. And then the three upper chakras are the divine ones.

This itself is indicative of the fact that there has to be a balance between the physical and the divine. The main issue is that we have not learnt the art of connecting the two.

We have to understand the three main types of consciousness:
Body consciousness
Mind consciousness
Soul consciousness

Most of the time, we are preoccupied with the first two. We groom the body, look after it and nourish it because we live by our external image. People judge us by this look as well. Cultivate a studied smile, the right body language and tone and often, you can get away with less cerebral content in your speech.

Right alongside, the mind is busy working overtime to support the body with all kinds of reasoning, whether it be with awareness or a lack of it.

The soul consciousness is necessary to bring to the forefront because as humans, we must know that we are here to use the body as a vehicle to purify our karma and consequently, the soul. This then should be our focus. But it isn’t.

There needs to be a bridge established between earthly activities and our soul activities. This bridge is the heart. The heart loves, period! What discriminates is attachment. When it is clearly understood that it is attachment that leads to hatred, we will start living in our hearts and without discrimination.

I received a very profound post which said that whatever comes our way won’t go away until we have learnt our lessons. I cannot even begin to endorse the truth of this statement. Whatever comes our way has been called for or invited by us, mainly by resisting the flow of life. We don’t give life a chance to happen. We are so full of ego that we want to make life happen and that too, OUR way. And the way we do this is by inflating ourselves to a level close to bursting. It’s so amazing, the absurdity of thinking we can get away with anything! Or that it is okay once in a while to look after our self interest at the cost of another. That it is acceptable to defy the spiritual teachings, make deliberate mistakes and run to a temple to cleanse periodically…. so that we can sin some more???
So be it! We then have to be prepared for trying situations sitting at our doorstep waiting for our learning before going to the next door.

I counsel many of my clients about taking charge of their lives. But, at what point does that happen?  How does it happen? Does a bell suddenly ring in the head, like the school bell indicating a change in activity? Or, is there a sudden spark in the brain?

That triggers at the right time can change me drastically is a truth I can’t deny. This can happen to anyone. But life changing triggers can often be compelling and often, passed by because we don’t perceive them as triggers. In the latter case, I will start building up repeated patterns for sure, because I will continue to behave in the same manner and therefore, evidently, attract the same results.

So, what do I mean when I say “take charge of your life”? We are not even aware of the extent to which we live our lives by the standards and expectations of others. Socially, when we indulge in group activities, we conform to a group standard. At home, we are bogged down by many diverse energies amidst which we often lose our own. Even if we were isolated, our own desires and expectations from ourselves and life would invariably strike at our core existence issues.

I understand taking charge of my life, not as doing what I like without consideration for others. I feel when I am in charge of my life, I am able to make conscious choices and take balanced decisions, which would benefit everyone. I take charge of my life at every step during each day.  I also realize that sometimes, I am not able to take charge and I find other people or events have taken charge at that point. The only way I can then take charge is to accept gracefully what I cannot change. That, in my mind, is also taking charge.

If we are looking for a formula for taking charge, the route we have to take is through being masters of our thoughts and emotions and understanding that compromises are unavoidable sometimes, and also necessary for our growth. For example, one who loses a tournament is in charge if the attitude is an “accepting with a smile” one. I am in charge if I accept what I cannot change but renew my efforts with a new vigor each time.

Emotions play a very important role in deciding if I am in charge. The moment I internalize negative emotions about anyone or anything, I am no longer in charge because I have allowed my negativity to take away my power. Lost power always translates into a lack of charge.  The moment I create blocks within me, I am no longer in charge of my life. Something or someone has affected me enough to wrest my charge away from me.

We keep passing the buck onto to anyone and everyone. We are reticent about shouldering the responsibility of what, in fact, we create with our reactions and responses. The day we stop blaming our relationships, the events in our life and start thinking of where we exercised the wrong choices, where we preferred short term gains by giving up charge, where we compromised wrongly, why we put ourselves under the control of someone, that will be the first step towards regaining the charge. First, I need to know why and where I lost it. Then I need to have the courage to make changes, however challenging, to retrieve the charge of my life. Finally, I need to embark upon a new plan of action inspired by the core self.

People who have the charge of their lives have a glow on the face, confidence in their eyes and in their stride. They are not fazed by failure, criticism nor are they remotely connected with negativity. They are leaders and teachers. They are path finders. They are on the path of ascension.

Over the years, in my experiences as a healer, I have seen many facets of love in people which demonstrate an acute need and therefore, a lack of this valuable emotion. Love is a prime energy which connects everything in creation. But we see fear rule people much more than love, and it is a fact that love cannot survive where there is fear. The converse is also true. Love and fear cannot co exist. There is a deep contradiction in the minds of human beings where, on one side, they want love and on the other side, they tend to mutilate it with their expectations.

There is a category of people who aspire to be loved through serving others, hoping that this will find approval in the eyes of those they serve and some love may come their way. There is another category of people who want love badly but who will actually turn people away from themselves by pretending that they don’t need anyone in their lives. Such people are very vulnerable from within and need to be taken care of. A third category of people is the demanding kind. They want love in the form of attention and can become quite obsessive.

One has to examine the womb reality and often, past lives to identify the root cause of why people are this way. The truth is that the intrinsic quality of the soul is love and that it doesn’t have to come from external sources at all. The soul, by virtue of being a spark of the Divine Energy, is abundant in love which actually multiplies when given out. But humans don’t trust and therefore, doubt everything and everyone. The Universe protects us provided we are in sync with it and live by its laws.

Love is its own reward. We love because it is our nature to love, not as a condition that the love is returned to us. Unconditional love is connected to our inner fountain of happiness and joy: the joy of giving with love.

I see many controls happening in the name of love. There seem to be unwritten rules in a close knit group which curtail the freedom to love those outside the group. Or, even if some do, they are not willing to show it. In families, too, there are divisive forces arising out of insecurities which find their roots in the inability to understand the actual nature of love.

As a healer, I know that if love becomes a need or even an obsession, the energy of the seeker goes out to the giver and debilitates the one who needs it and asks for it, while the giver becomes stronger. The precondition of a healthy Heart Chakra is the ability to love while keeping our personal space intact. When we feel depleted of energy, we tend to look for it outside ourselves when we should actually be tapping it within ourselves and also retrieving it from those who we have given it away to. Unlike a vessel getting steadily empty as we use its contents, the more we share love as a Divine Energy without expecting a return, the more love seems to fill us. This is an eternal fountain for those who experience the feeling. It is a transformational experience which words cannot describe or achieve.

Our lives are so colored by our desires, ego, biases and negativities arising out of a deep seated ignorance and a lack of awareness that unless these are removed, we may not be able to experience the simplicity and beauty of life and will continue to live in dark zones.
