Sense of humor

Sense of humor! Sigh! If common sense is uncommon, a sense of humor is, too. You know, if you want to remove your blocks within yourself, learn to laugh at yourself about the very things that hurt and angered you earlier.

Today, we are so careful about monitoring our humor. Say the right things. Smile only so much. Facial expressions should be just correct. Oops! How exhausting!

Life is fun! Laugh. Fall and get up to run with exhilaration, with the wind blowing your hair away…feel the raindrops on your cheeks…

…and if people laugh at you, join them and make them laugh more! Be a free spirit…after all, what do you care as long as you are in tune with yourself? Neither our smile nor our happiness should be a bi product of someone else’s perceptions. Because I am because I am, not because you think I am.

There are many religions and sects and several texts which teach human beings how to live with each other and how to also evolve spiritually while performing our daily karma.

But what gets internalized is basically what some religious heads interpret from these texts and unfortunately, add their own bit to keep their place in the hierarchical order , thus , often losing the thought processes of the writers and the authenticity of the text.

The end result is groups, blind following, and rigid mindsets and therefore, limited minds and a huge amount of intolerance for anyone who does not believe in your belief systems….a potentially ignitable situation at the best of times and the worst of times.

If every human being was taught instead, to read the texts and gain the knowledge written with the pure, undiluted intentions of those writers, this world would learn to follow the universal laws and treat each other with love, respect and understanding.

It is never too late to incorporate such studies within the academic curriculum. There will most certainly be astounding results. We have forgotten our “gurukuls”.

It is inevitable that in our journey, some stay with us all along and some fulfill the reason they were in your life and move away. It is absolutely ordained and within the plan of our life.

Forming attachments along the way makes this learning difficult. Much grief, sorrow and unacceptability comes our way, leading to an arrest in the growth process. We were not meant to gather so much negativity. But learning such lessons with wisdom would make our tough karma easier to handle, though inevitable to experience.

Like a child that fails in exams when it has not learnt the right lessons, life is one such exam where learning does not come only from mugging but observing, introspecting, experiencing, making wise decisions and choices and then arriving at the right path.

Taking off from the saying, “Evil is educational”, it seems so much easier to understand when you view this from the point of view of individual ego inspiring the evil and collective ego , the sum total of many egos inspiring negativity amounting to collective evil. Like terrorism which stems from a radical belief system honed by dark perceptions and leading to a collective evil, all within the darkness of negative perceptions.

How much cleaning one has to do of the self then is a matter of every person’s agenda for only then will our societies purify and our future generations become secure, prosperous, progressive and peaceful.

Hatred is evil. Separatism is evil. And until such memories are transformed, we will continue to attract evil because we have transcended darkness.

Destined! I used to believe for a long time that we can do ANYTHING we want to. Life proved otherwise. But with a corollary not everything we want can be achieved. But when that understanding dawns and we are able to accept and let go of that desire, miraculously, other opportunities begin to shine before us. And those often are what our inner calling is.

The question is, at what stage do we become sensitive to this awareness?
And how do we remain untainted by the pollution of our desires which may not be in sync with what the Universe has chosen for us? It is very possible if we learn to understand the symbolic language in which the Universe speaks
to us.

Many of us have had the experience that during a questioning phase, you open a book and suddenly, your answer is there. Or, someone around you will say something which is just the reply you are looking for. This is the supporting language of the Universe. If you go deeper and start observing everything with a microscopic awareness, each minute will become very profound in its information and knowledge.

I have noticed that there is a threshold of tolerance for life’s events and once that is reached, the wells of dejection and depression become very easy to fall into. Most if the time, it is people who don’t support people in such cases. They feel that supporting will take away something from them. But the Universe gives more to those who give with a pure intention.

We say “man is not an island” when we refer to relationships. But it is equally true that the soul does stand alone on the earth, unfolding its, unfolding its own journey with some pointers and help from other souls here.

And yet, we gather so many insecurities along the way…about people being critical, people not liking us, people not wanting to socialize with us, isolating us etc.

Our perceptions can be really narrow. If we expand our thought processes, we will understand that, we are all like passengers on a train, travelling together in our own compartments, with those others who travel with us. When we arrive at our station, we disembark. Others carry on till their station comes up.

So, there are those who will travel with you, whether with good will or criticism. Both are necessary for the soul. If we can see everything and everyone around us as helping us in one way or another, the first emotion we will let go of is stress. Our challenge is not people but what they are mirroring in you.

It is lovely sitting around the fire on a cold evening. Just like it is lovely to sit around your children to warm your heart. Good comparison…but fire destroys, too. As a symbolic fire in relationships.

It is sad to see disorientation between new age kids and parents. I wonder why love is not enough. There is much imagery in relationships today…sometimes; children are even ashamed of their parents, their dressing, their behavior, their social etiquette, that they look and talk down to them.

When you get into your late 50’s and 60’s, and see people and loved ones leaving this world one after another, it seems unimaginable that anyone should disregard the value of their near ones . It is not their fault that they were from a different environment, growing up. That they only learnt what they were allowed to learn at that time. That the freedom today was not given then. And many other circumstances due to which they became what they are today.
