Even we don’t know how deeply entrenched we are in this world. Every minute we are creating more and more attachments, more and more prejudices, inflated egos and little signs of starting the process of detachment. We are amassing products of misery and stress each minute and then, in desperation, looking for people to bail us out or improve our lot.

It is very possible to live as householders and still maintain a detached attachment and equilibrium. It is not necessary to become a recluse and go into the Himalayas to practice detachment. On the contrary!

Living amongst people and yet being balanced is the acid test for us all.

In the 19th century, the famous artist Dante was visited by an old man. He wanted to show his paintings to Dante and get his opinion on where he stood as an artist. After looking at all the paintings, Dante said, “I am sorry but these paintings are mediocre”

Hearing this, the man took out another lot of paintings to show him. This time, there was excitement in Dante’s voice as he eulogized about them and asked where the artist was.

The man said, “Sir, I am the artist of these as well…in my younger days. If I had received similar words of encouragement and praise, I would have been a well known artist like you.

Moral: It is very important to encourage and appreciate talent.

2nd moral: Don’t wait for endorsements. Be your own benchmark.

Emotions

Freedom is when we release our wrongly placed emotions to the Universe. We really need to use our emotions rather than the reverse. Just as we need to use our mind rather than the mind use us. How much time we lose in the few years we have on this earth by not obtaining the right knowledge.

We let people and events control us and very often, wring us inside out. It is rather unwise to let this happen. As we take a bath every day, so we should also take a shower to cleanse emotions every day. Don’t let anything fester and don’t take any of it to your bed. Your emotional health is entirely your responsibility.

JUST LET IT GO. Flow with the tide of life.

Dependence

We hear constantly that we need to take charge of our lives. But at every step since childhood, we are taught dependence, on parents, family, siblings, teachers…and then we become dependent on our peers and later, during days of courtship and marriage on our spouses. It does not end there. There is a natural dependency on children as we grow older.

I am not making a case for dependence here. I am only trying to point out that it is not easy to get out of the stage of dependence unless we become aware of every sign of dependence and try and reverse it immediately, constantly training ourselves to consciously take charge of our choices and exercise them with caution and intelligence.

Adversity

Adversity makes a refined person for the sheer experiences which are huge learning lessons. Of course, unless we are busy cursing our luck and everyone else…

When adversity comes our way, we tend to kind of sink into it like being enveloped by a dark cloud. Very quickly, we lose our power of thinking and finding solutions.

Instead, searching for our inner resources is definitely more productive in the long run. Man has been responsible for wonderful innovations. Do you think it happened in a day and without trial and error for days, months and perhaps, years? Did they never see adversity or go through phases to quit? But the end product was too exciting and whatever adversity came was dealt with a new vigour and a sense of challenge.

Imagine how meaningless life would be without adversity! What would happen to our creativity for one? And how would we feel alive and purposeful?

If you look at the use of a small object in its micro capacity and enlarge and apply it on a larger scale, many more benefits would accrue.

For example, when we talk to cleaning, soap comes to mind. Different cleaning agents come to mind depending upon what you want to clean.

Similarly, at the macro level, the bright, white light from the Universe is excellent for cleansing our aura and our chakras. This enables energy harnessing, a healthy flow and positivity. All you have to do is creative visualization.

Imagine or visualize a stream or ball of white light covering the body and aura inside and outside everyday and even a few times a day. The results can be seen in the emotional and mental strength slowly seeping in and sustaining with regular practice

The important three C’s…..

Cleanliness, Compassion and Commitment.

Amazing that cleanliness outside means we are clean inside. That’s why clutter in homes is indicative of cluttered minds.

Compassion reaches out to others only when it understands and mirrors compassion for the self. Forgiveness, therefore, comes easier to compassionate people.

Commitment is a huge one. I have seen way too many people not fulfilling their commitments or going back on the spoken word. This is somewhere deep down an indication of a lack of commitment to the self. This is hard to measure in terms of worldly acquisitions. You might be committed to acquiring wealth, for example. But you may not be committed to the means of acquiring it. You may not value your own promises. Or maybe, temporary commitment is done only for personal gains and withdrawn later. Who knows?

There are many layers shrouding truth and reality. There is never a better time than now to start removing them even if it is painful to do so.

Spontaneity is often a double edged sword in this world. People are so used to measuring their words and actions. It is sad, really, because spontaneity springs instinctively from within and has no hidden agenda. But it needs another spontaneous person opposite to understand this…also an unbiased one.

Those who listen to words which do not resonate within their hearts day after day tend to numb their intrinsic selves and bury their core under the relationships that” matter.” To keep everyone happy around them. At what cost though? When is the right time to make ourselves happy? Something to think about.

Simplicity

There is much merit in simplicity. Saying it as it is. Such relationships are heartwarming because there is no agenda. Like bright sunshine which streams in without being filtered or cloaked by clouds.

Wonderful are the bonds of such connectivity where you laugh uncontrollably and cry unabashedly together.

There are some bonds of this kind I have witnessed and they are just beautiful.

Relationships that are close but become distant over a period of time… I have been analyzing them.

When it is a new relationship, both people are on their “best”, giving, adjusting and accepting mode. They find a lot of similarities and meeting points and are really excited that they have hit the jackpot!

But they haven’t factored in that life experiences need not be similar, nor reactions to experiences either. As we see frequently around us, siblings brought up in the same environment and by the same parents can be so different from each other. Not only that, each one also grows differently. Different attitudes. Different belief systems. Different behavioral patterns.

But if one among the two friends or couple hits a low patch, maybe a long one even, the other is often unable to sustain the closeness of relationship for hankering after what there used to be. These are the kind of people who want to feel comfortable within a known environment and show little compassion or understanding for the situation of the other.

Conditional caring at best! But what to do? Change is the essence of life and sometimes, it leaves behind what does not work anymore and ushers in new people and new experiences designed to explore a new spurt of growth. One has to make choices all the time.
